Data Centre Technician

Working at a Q9 data centre, you would be responsible for building, deploying, inventorying, and repairing mission critical computing equipment - including server hardware, networking gear, and security devices.

Responsibilities

  • Building computers from component parts, updating BIOS and other firmware.
  • Rack mounting servers and other computing equipment.
  • Attaching and labeling network, KVM, and power cables in accordance with network diagrams.
  • Troubleshooting, repairing and replacing servers and other computing equipment.
  • Receiving, unpacking, and inventorying equipment from vendors.
  • Rebooting, logging-on or performing other basic support services for our customers.
  • Logging and tracking activities in a ticketing system.
  • Speaking directly with customers or vendors on service issues.
  • Handling removable media such as CDs, DVDs, tapes.
  • Responding to miscellaneous requests from internal groups.
  • Performing miscellaneous facilities maintenance tasks.
  • Basic day-to-day tasks necessary to maintain overall upkeep of the Data Centre as seen fit by direct supervisor or manager(s).

General Requirements

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to read and follow detailed instructions.
  • Attention to detail and quality of work.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and work under pressure.
  • Strong knowledge of computer hardware.
  • Experience with office productivity tools (e.g. spreadsheet such as Excel, E-mail application such as Outlook).
  • Able to work a 7/24 shift rotation including overnight and week-end shifts.
  • Able to perform tasks involving physical demands such as climbing ladders, bending, kneeling, reaching and heavy lifting (e.g. changing light bulbs or rack mounting servers).
  • General mechanical aptitude is very important (i.e. comfortable working with basic hand tools, resetting circuit breakers, etc).

Considered An Asset

  • Familiarity with computer imaging tools.
  • Familiarity with basic computer networking.
  • A+ or other related certification.
  • Any electrical or mechanical experience.
