Apprenticeship Electrician
Reporting to the Electrical Coordinator, the Electrical Apprentice trains to become professional, or journeyman electrician. This is done through both extensive hands-on training in the installation of electrical systems, and college coursework in electrical theory and electrical codes.
Responsibilities
- Laying out, assembling, installing, repairing, maintaining, connecting and testing electrical systems.
- Installing all electrical and electronic devices.
- Test, calibrate and troubleshoot electrical and electronic systems including programmable logic controls.
- Planning installations from blueprints, sketches and specifications.
- Systematically diagnosing faults in electrical and electronic components.
- Measuring, cutting, threading, bending, assembling and installing conduits and other electrical conductor enclosures.
- Splicing and terminating electrical conductors.
- Testing electrical and electronic equipment for proper function.
Skills & Requirements
- Must be able to use basic electrician's tools including wire cutters, wire strippers, power drills, screwdrivers, conduit benders, and circuit-testing equipment.
- Must be able to follow complex instructions easily from their supervisors. Additionally, they should be able to communicate clearly any problems they come across during their daily work assignments.
- Must be at least 18 years old and possess a high school diploma or GED.
